My Unhealthy Nail Polish Obsession...

I have been obsessed with doing my nails lately and reading blogs and watching YouTube video's does not help either!

Although I do not have much money, I caved and brought some Essie polishes from an ebay seller and other polishes from my local Boots.

Unleash the polish ...

(1) Essie Miss Matched - A cream finished baby pink nail polish which applies in 3 coats. It has a white pinkish look to the polish when 3 coats are applied. It is lovely, but can be streaky if 2 coats are applied.

(2) Essie Chinchilly - This is a dirty light greige polish with a cream finish. In some lights this can appear as a light grey khaki colour. It is completely opaque in 2 coats!

(3) Sally Hanson Insti-Dri Top Coat - This stuff is amazing! I was never a person who used top coat, but this stuff dries my nails so quickly!

(4) Revlon Facets of Fuchsia - This is a gorgeous polish. It has a black base with fine and chunky purple glitter! Applies opaque in 2 coats, but is a pain in the backside to remove!

(5) Revlon Gold Coin - This is a lovely gold metallic polish with slight hints of silver running through it. Applies opaque in 2 coats and does not chip as much as other metallic polishes.

(6) Revlon Smoky Canvas - This polish is part of the fall 2011 collection and is light grey creamy polish with beige undertones. It is much lighter than the Essie Chinchilly polish. You can get away with applying one coat with this polish as the opacity of this polish is fabulous!

The Essie Polishes were purchased from this ebay seller -

The Revlon polishes and Sally Hanson top coat were purchased from Boots.

Happy Shopping

Lush Colour Supplements

I have been curious about how the Lush Colour Supplements perform, and have always been interested in trying one!

So whilst I was supposedly browsing at my local shopping centre, I was drawn to the Lush shop, picked up a few bits and spent money! Yikes! Whilst Shopping I picked up the Colour Supplement in 'dark yellow' which is suitable for olive-toned skin, which I have.

What are Colour Supplements?
This is a multi-use base colour - can be used as foundation, to mix in with moisturiser to form a tinted moisturiser and concealer!

Guys don't freak out by the fact that this shade is dark, my face is much darker than my hands! I really don't know why lol.. This colour suits my skintone perfectly on my face :)

  • The coverage you get if you use this product straight out of the pot without moisturiser is medium to full coverage, which I love! It also doesn't feel heavy like most full coverage products for the skin would feel!
  • Price: £7.95 making this affordable compared to many drugstore foundations!
  • Consistency is lovely and creamy, not cakey looking on the skin
  • Easy to carry around as it is in a little pot
  • Can be used in a variety of different ways - tinted moisturiser, concealer
  • Provides a luminous glow to the face

  • Rubbish selection of colours, as the focus here is on base colour!
  • This product is in a tiny pot, so will not last as long

I really do love this product and it is not only affordable, but looks amazing when applied on the skin. I haven't reached for my Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation since I got this 2 weeks ago, which says something about this product.

If you are ever in Lush, ask for a sample of this and try this and let me know what you lovelies think?

Relaxing with a coffee..

After long days at work, it is so relaxing to just sit and have a coffee and chit chat.
After a tiring day, I headed to Starbucks for a nice coffee and nearly fell asleep in the cozy armchairs! haha

Starbucks Creme Brulee Macchiato

Starbucks Belgian Chocolate Brownie

What is your favourite way to relax?

The Holiday Season is nearly here..

Fall has well and truly begun, and the holiday season is set to arrive anytime soon !

This means the holiday collections are set to release for all the high end beauty brands! I absolutely love all the packaging and the cool stuff that the different makeup brands release.

Here is some things that have caught my eye and have added to my Holiday wishlist:
MAC Ice Parade Collection 2011 - 'Make it perfect brush kit'

Benefit Holiday Collection - 'The Big 10'

Philosophy Holiday Collection 2011 - 'Snow Kisses Duo'

Urban Decay Holiday Collection 2011 - 'Urban Decay Mariposa Palette'

All of these holiday collections will be releasing from the end of October, to December time. These products will all be limited edition, so if you like what you see then snap them up! I think the Urban Decay Palette will sell out quick, which is something that occurs with most Urban Decay limited edition palettes.

Which items for the holiday season have caught your eye?

My Skincare Wishlist

These are some of the items that I really want to purchase, but money has been kinda tight ...but a girl can still dream right?

(1) The Clarisonic Mia - This is something I have been really wanting to purchase as it promises amazingly cleansed skin. However with the £120 price tag, this is something I cannot still justify?

(2) The Avene Cleanance Gel - A product I came across through the beauty community on YouTube, and is something that has interested me because it is targeted at acne prone skin, which I have! This is something I want to pick up as soon as I am out of the cleanser I am currently using!

(3) Kiehl's Ultra Facial Toner - After trying this in a sample form, I fell in love! It makes the skin feel soft and firm and it feels really refreshing on my skin!

(4) Origins GinZing Eyecream - I played around with this whilst I was in Origins with my sister and I really liked the consistency and how it provides a luminescent glow under the eye area!

What is that one product that you really want, that is one your skincare list?

Boudoir Prive - September 2011

If you have read about the Glossybox on a previous blog post I wrote, Boudoir Prive is a similar concept where it offers its subscriber's 6 luxury sample size products for £10 a month including p&p to try in the comfort of their own home. These products can include hair, makeup and even lifestyle.

This is what I received in the September 2011 Boudoir Prive box!
How cute is the packaging?

Leaflet - containing all the product information

This is a scrub for the body which is part of the 'Tropic Skincare' line that was founded by The Apprentice's Susan Ma! This is 100% natural and smells like lemon and lime! I tried this on my hands and they felt AMAZING afterwards! I may be tempted to get the full size !

This fragrance sample by 'Agent Provocateur' was not my cup of tea! Really strong for my liking! If you like strong scents, then this will be something you will enjoy.

This hair oil by 'Macadamia' is intriguing and I am excited to try this out ! I have heard good things about the brand 'Macadamia'.

This eye cream by 'Colbert MD' is used by the likes of Kate Middleton and Sienna Miller! I tried this around my eye area and it is incredibly refreshing! I shall see what it does for my eyes after a couple of weeks of using it!

I have heard so much about Zoya and their long wearing polishes, so I was excited to receive this in my box! It isn't a colour (Tao) I would have picked, but looked nice on the nails and needs 2 coats only to become opaque!

This eye pencil from 'Cargo' was not easy to apply and was scratchy on the eye lid! Not impressed with this pencil as you can get cheaper ones from Bourjois that are smooth on the eyelids and blend easily.

The extra little freebie that was given, was the Mai Couture Blotting sheets. These blotting sheets blot oil on the skin but also provide a bronzing effect on the skin. I have yet to try these, but intrigued as to how they will work and look on the skin.

All in all, I felt this was a better box than the August box!

Did any of you receive the Boudoir Prive Box? What did you think of it?

Much Love

The Department Store Beauty Experience

Department stores are a great way to find and discover more high end and niche brands pertaining to beauty. However, the experience can often be overwhelming with all that there is to offer.

This is my guide to making the department store beauty experience more enjoyable and worthwhile.

Tip #1 - Do a little bit of research into some brands that are based at the particular department store so that you are not running around like a headless chicken trying to find a specific brand. This is something that happened to me, and turned out the brand I was looking for was not at Selfridges but in House of Fraser.

Tip #2 - Ask for advice or more information. Whether a particular shade is suited to you, and whether there is any other colour's that could potentially suit you. This is the beauty of shopping at the department store, as help is always at hand and it is a more personal and informative experience as the counter assistants have brand knowledge.

Tip #3 - If you spot something that tickles your fancy, test it on your skin and ask the counter assistant to test the product on your skin. This way you know exactly what it looks like and whether the product is right for you.

Tip #4 - Ask for samples! Don't be shy to ask for samples even if you are not purchasing a product! Sample's are great if you feel a particular foundation or skincare product etc is something you are interested in, but do not know whether it may break you out or is suitable for you. This is why I love visiting the department stores for beauty products as I come home with quite a few samples...

Yesterday I asked for a few Kiehl's samples of products I wanted to try, and a sample of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation (shade B40) which I have been meaning to try after the hype. My sister and I both picked up a sample of the foundation, and after testing it on our skins I may do a review if I purchase the full size.

Tip #5 - Take advantage of free facials/ skincare consultations and mini makeover's that they have on various different counters, which can be part of promotions or a separate offering! Yesterday Kiehl's were offering mini facials :)

These are not a extensive guide of tips, and there are probably many more tips that others can provide, and if so please be sure to leave them in the comments below. This is just my top 5 for when you brace the department store beauty counters.

Friend's day out ..

This blog post will be different from the traditional blog posts I write on my blog.. This will be a general one about friends and food!

So me and my close friends went out for a nice lunch and an afternoon out as it has been ages since we sat down talked, took the Michael out of each other and ate lots of food! We all love our food, however we can be indecisive and spend a good portion of time either driving around locating different food outlets through to drawing names out of a hat! This is probably because we pretty much have tried most places in our City, therefore our options are narrowed! mehh!

After much deliberation, we finally decided to go to an entertainment complex, where they have lots of different restaurants, arcades and a cinema! Pretty convenient! Even though we were familiar with these restaurants, we were too hungry to think of other places to go! This is where we chose to eat....

Pamper Day: Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

It is just one of those days? Raining outside and my feet and back kills from walking around in town! I so need to stop being lazy and walk more! Whilst I was shopping for a nice Autumn Cardigan to keep me warm, I popped into Boots and was browsing and spotted all the products from the Sanctuary Spa skincare line.

If you are not familiar with the brand Sanctuary, it is a skincare range that was first created and introduced in the Sanctuary Spa at Convent Garden in London. Their products can found in Boots stores, online and other retail stores.

I picked up this face mask as I have been really into skincare lately and in particularly face masks. I picked a sachet rather than the full size tube as I wanted to see how it performs. If it is any good, then I want to possibly purchase the full size. This satchet retailed at £2.03 at my local Boots

Let the pamper session begin! After trying this face mask, I shall update this blog post in relation to how it performs and whether it is worth purchasing the full size or even trying it out. Have any of you tried any products from the 'Sanctuary' skincare range?

*Update* - Had my little pamper session. The mask had a weird consistency something I've never seen in a face mask before. It was thick and not as easy to apply as most face masks, probably due to the charcoal and kaolin clay that was contained inside the mask. Once on the skin it feels amazing! It has a warming effect on the skin and it feels relaxing! 5 minutes after applying it on my face, I washed off the mask as directed, and applied my moisturiser.

Result - Face felt super soft! My face felt refreshed and clean.

Rating - 4.5/5 - I shall be picking up the full size soon!

Leave any comments below.

Glossybox - September 2011

I have been waiting for my Glossybox since Thursday hoping that I would receive it then as my other friends had received theirs! Then at 7.44am the postman rang the doorbell and my Glossybox was here! I grabbed the box and sat in my pyjamas opening up the contents! It was like being a kid again. I ripped the box open to reveal another light pink box .. As I lifted the lid, the box came in really nice packaging as always!

For those of you that don't know what Glossybox is.. let me break it down for you.

Glossybox is an online monthly beauty subscription service whereby you pay £12.95 a month which includes postage and packaging to receive a pink box each month tailored to you.

What is contained in that pink box you may ask?
The box contains 5 high end deluxe size samples or sometimes you can receive full size beauty products. This includes skincare, makeup, hair and more!

Why samples?
This box allows you to try these deluxe samples so that you are introduced to new beauty products or brands you may never have heard of, which upon liking the deluxe samples you may want to invest in the full size. Also is allows you to test these in the comfort of your own home, rather than at a busy department store!

For futher information check out their website -

Onto the contents of this Septembers Glossybox

L'Oreal Professional Mythic Oil - This is a hair oil for all hair types that nourishes hair leaving it shiny and feeling supple. This is a full size product! The price for the full size is - £14.95.

StriVectin SD Eye Concentrate - This is an eye cream for those who have dark circles, puffy eyes, wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. I am excited to try this as I have dark circles which are pretty bad! This is a deluxe sample containing 7ml of product.

HD Brows Eye and Brow Palette - This is a palette to fill in brows and for the eyes as eyeshadow and eyeliner! This is a full size palette named 'foxy' that contains four shades that are suited to brunettes, which I am. The price for the full size is £19.99.

Plum by Mary Greenwell - This is a perfume sample which is a signiture fragrance for the world-renowned celebrity makeup artist Mary Greenwell. This is a sample size of 1.5ml.

Show and Tell - Wearable Emerald Eye Makeup Look

Today I was just experimenting with my different bits of makeup, and decided to experiment with an Illamasqua Pure Pigment in the Shade 'Conquer' that I received in my Glossybox, which is an emerald green shade.

This is such a pretty shade, but sometimes it can be daunting to wear a green especially for those who prefer neutral eyeshadow's. However, if applied with a light hand and blended out with other neutral shadows, this pigment looks lovely and not bright or bold. If you prefer a more bolder look, then by all means you can deepen the green. However, I went for a more neutral and wearable eyeshadow look using this pigment.

Other than the above pigment, I used neutral eyeshadow's from the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette.

The Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Limited Edition eyeshadow palette.

The colour's I used in the palette are: Mushroom, Drink Me, Eat Me and Mad Hatter

The Emerald Eye Makeup Look.

Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the lid.

(1) - Apply 'Drink Me, Eat Me' to the inner corner of the eye using a flat shader brush.
(2) - Apply 'Mushroom' next to 'Drink Me, Eat Me', and blend into the crease, using a blending brush.
(3) - Lighty pat the Illamasqua Pure Pigment in 'Conquer' on the middle of the eyelid to the outer corner using a flat shader brush.
(4) - Using a flat shader brush, create a 'V' on the outer corner of the eyelid using the eyeshadow 'Mad Hatter'. Then blend this colour into the crease by using a blending brush.
(5) - Apply a highlighter shade of your choice on your brow bone. I picked MAC 'Femme-Fi'.
Apply 'Mad Hatter' to the lower lash line. Apply Liquid Eyeliner, curl your eyelashes and apply a Mascara of your choice.

The Tools or makeup bits I used to achieve the look:

(6) - Collection 2000 Extreme 24Hr Felt Tip Eyeliner 'Black'
(7) - Apply Mascara after curling eyelashes. I used Maybelline The Falsies in Waterproof
(8) - No 7 Eyelash curler
(9) - MAC eyeshadow as a highlighter in 'Femme-Fi'

(10) - Urban Decay Primer Potion
(11) - Bourjois Flat Shader Brush
(12) -  MAC 224 - I used this to apply the highlighter on my brow bone
(13) - MAC 217 blending brush - I used this to blend and apply colour's to the crease

There you have it! Using an emerald green in a more wearable way with other neutral colours. Experiment, use any bold or non-neutral colours with neutral shades for a nice smokey eye that is as wearable as any neutral eye.

Get Creative !
